Catch A Little Rhyme Poem

Past Eve Merriam

Once upon a time
I caught a little rhyme

I set it on the floor
but it ran right out the door

I chased it on my bicycle
but it melted to an icicle

I scooped it upwardly in my hat
just it turned into a cat

I caught it by the tail
merely it stretched into a whale

I followed it in a boat
only information technology changed into a goat

When I fed it tin and paper
it became a tall skyscraper

Then information technology grew into a kite
and flew far out of sight …

When I was a kid, my large sis took me
To the Capitol Theater, in my hometown
Of Rochester, NY,

And there was a movie that afternoon,
The Tingler, which starred Vincent Cost,
And what I call up best...

The Last Word

I am a door of metaphor
waiting to be opened.
Y'all'll discover no lock, no key.
All are free to enter, at volition.
Just step over the threshold.
Retrieve to dress for travel, though.
Visitors take been known
to get carried away.Illustration by Shadra Strickland
